With the development of technology utilization in health care systems in the world, the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system has become the alternative of Paper Medical Record in recent years. Undoubtedly, the United States’ health care system also adopted the EMR system in recent years to keep its advanced status in the world. It has been several years since the adoption of the EMR system in the United States; however, the status of the adoption of the EMR systems in hospitals is not clear. This literature review will focus on the benefits and barriers in the utilization of EMR system in hospitals of the USA. The following eight articles will demonstrate some evidence about the utilization of EMR system in hospitals, while the researchers are more and more concerned about the benefits and barriers of the EMR systems in hospitals and how to improve the quality of this system.
