After watching the movie “Sound and Fury”, I learned about what a cochlear implant is and the effects that it has on Deaf culture. A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted device that provides the brain with sound signals. In the movie Heather who is from a completely Deaf family wants to get the implant Another family in the movie who the husband (Chris) is the brother of Heather 's father (Peter) who has newborn twins, which one of them is Deaf. The effects that the cochlear implant has is that while it can help Deaf people improve their ability to hear sounds it can also make them lose their Deaf culture which Heathers parents are afraid of. For the newborn twin, Chris and his wife want their child to have a successful life through hearing.
Sara Nović’s novel True Biz is, at its core, a depiction of the struggle between the Deaf community and its hearing counterpart. Much of the book is spent describing how hearing people who fail to understand the Deaf community have mainstreamed their deaf children through the use of ASL deprivation and the use of cochlear implants. Nović feels pride about the Deaf community and wants to teach us about it so that we in the hearing world can better help to prevent its destruction. Unfortunately, in doing this, Nović has painted a one-sided picture regarding the use of cochlear implants by failing to include examples of successful ones, her depiction of Austin's family struggle around the issue, and most importantly, by glorifying the destruction of the bionics lab.
Sound and Fury centers two families who faced a challenging decision on whether to get a cochlear implant for their deaf child. Peter and his wife Nina are both deaf and gave birth to three deaf children. Neither Peter’s brother Chris nor wife Mari are deaf but one of their twin boys was born deaf. Peter and Nina are proud of being part of the Deaf community therefore they’re not as open to the idea of cochlear implants. On the contrary Mari and Chris, although having deaf in their families, are not involved in the Deaf culture and have a more positive outlook on cochlear implants.

Deaf Decisions or deaf Decisions Day one of classes and I really had no idea what to expect, especially for this one. I am a double major in English and Studio Art, so I came into this class expecting that I would struggle to stay interested. Luckily, that has not been the case! Similarly, I did not know what to expect or believe when we were introduced to the controversial topic of cochlear implants. In fact, I had no idea that cochlear implants were even controversial.

Code Of Ethics Regardless of any personal beliefs, Surgical Technologist have several professional standards to maintain when it comes to personal conduct and high patient care to uphold at all times. The entire medical team is responsible for keeping patient information confidential at all times, unless instructed not to by the patient. As part of the care team we need to respect and protect any legal, moral rights the patient may have.
Fitting into society can be hard for any person, but it can be even more difficult for a deaf person. With a cochlear implant, it can give the person more of an ability to fit into society. Everyone wants to fit in and get along with people. If the person cannot hear, then most kids will look at them differently and not include him or her. The children could be scared of the child that cannot hear and does not always know what is going on, or how to communicate with a normal hearing person.
Recently the National Monument Bears Ears has been federally protected in the area of Utah. The natural formations and countless ancient aritfacts found within this area will be protected. For several groups with an interest in this National Monument is is a huge victory to get it protected, however, other groups are very opposed to the formation. This spectacular scene in Utah has so much more to it than what meets the eye.
The topic of cochlear implants is causing quite the argument between the deaf and medical community. The core of the disagreement centers around whether or not cochlear implantation should continue to be considered as an option for hearing impaired individuals to improve auditory ability.. According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association a cochlear implant is “a device that provides direct electrical stimulation to the auditory (hearing) nerve in the inner ear.” Proponents of cochlear implants claim that hose who are born with or later experience a problem with the sensory nerve of the inner ear have the opportunity to gain the ability to hearHowever, many are now arguing that this device is not as useful or healthy for the human ear as it has been said to be. Those who oppose cochlear implantation, namely the deaf community, view it as a threat to the deaf community and its culture.
By design, healthcare is a continuously evolving industry. The rapid changes make it difficult to see when things go wrong. Whether the issues are obvious or complicated, it is easier to address when medical ethics is in place. Medical ethics can be defined as standards of conduct for a healthcare professional to carry out responsibilities with honesty, competence, respects, integrity, and trust. These moral guidelines can be interpreted by the American Medical Association (AMA) through the Principles of Medical Ethics, the Code of Ethics, and the “Declaration of Professional Responsibility: Medicine’s Social Contract with Humanity”.
The overriding issue presented in this scenario is one of bullying experienced by the less fortunate scholarship student on the grounds of his “scruffy” appearance. The NSW Department of Education and Communities (2016, 1.1) has a zero tolerance to any form of bullying within the learning environment, whether it be physical or psychological. This is exhibited within this scenario as the other students are misusing their more fortunate socio-economic position to bastardize this student who falls outside their circle of acceptance. However, despite their meaningful intentions, educators must take the appropriate steps to ensure that ethical conundrums do not present themselves, whilst bearing in mind both the students wellbeing and maintaining
The primary motivation that has led me to pursue an advanced degree in bioethics at Columbia University is the direct applicability the field has to my interests in medicine. Today, the physician needs to contend with an increasingly pluralistic and multicultural society that can create pressure to compel him or her to accommodate patients ' diverse values. Each person and each physician who come together in the medical relationship have expectations, hopes, and needs. Only after these are understood and respected can appropriate technical measures be applied. My decision to apply to Columbia University is based on the belief that this program provides the optimal environment for me to investigate ethics as it pertains to medicine to prepare myself for the ethical requirements of a physician.

Me as an Master Barber I use my experience, expertise, and skills to boost my clientele, and increase reputation of my profession.
