Dental Ethical Issue LaShalonda Marshall Vatterott College Introduction to Dental Assisting Courtney Oetting Some of these cases talked about in this paper are possibly real and some fictional cases of things that could happen in a dental offices. Some characters are imaginary to protect the identity of real people in these crazy situations. Some are sad some or just outrageous and possibly funny. There was a dentist that was giving his patients nitrous oxide to his patients. He gave it to his patients that requested for it. In one case he sedated a patient with the nitrous oxide for a procedure and the patient started coming to the office a repeat amount of times once a month. The doctor then only cared about the money. The dentist could make promises to his dental assistants saying they could possibly get raises and go on all paid vacations if they participate in going on dinner or lunch dates with him. By then making the dental assistant promise not tell coworkers or report it to OSHA and you’ll have a bonus by the end of the week until the end of the year. And the doctor says and does this with all his dental assistants and makes reservations while in front of patients. Which this would be wrong in all aspects because the dentist should be professional at all times and be able to control himself. A doctor should never discuss irrelevant information around patients while doing a procedure. A doctor should never offer cash advantage for a dental assistant to make advances in the career by doing special favors to get a better position or earn more for doing things that aren’t right and …show more content…

And it’s up to the parties involved to decide what to do from that point on. It’s sad a that people go to school and learn the right and wrongs but; will let money blind them from those morals they’ve been taught and go the other route. Now no bad deed goes unpunished by law but look who gets hurt which is now the doctors pockets and a license he worked hard for is now gone. But first and foremost the patient everyone wants a great smile and to have their teeth. Not only that a dental assistant should be able to work hard and earn a great position in their career field from all the hard work and dedication they put into a job. Not because their boss is going through a sad phase of his wife leaving so he’s flirting with his employees. Everyone should get treated legally and fair and love coming to work. And if an issue like that is happening at an office it should be reported asap and not wait to see what will happen because things could lead to avenues that it shouldn’t be taken to. Everyone job is important but things should be done
