The article talks about how we can prevent obesity in children by educating caregivers such as managers, teachers, and nursery cooks. England and New Zealand has a high rate of children who attend Early Childhood Education (ECE) Services and also high rates for over weight and obese children (Gerritsen, 2016, p. 56). Most caregivers only have training if the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Services they work for participate in health promotion programs, which would have a huge impact on what they feed children (Gerritsen, 2016, p. 56). Young children tend to be very picky on what foods they eat, if it’s good, they’ll eat, if not, they won’t, it’s all up to taste in their minds. There are many method of teaching young children to like foods they find not tasty, one of them is letting them try a little bit, instead of seeing it, and rejecting it right away because it doesn’t look good. Parents tend be protective of their children, and of course would like to know about what their children consume in Early Childhood Education Services. Sometimes parents are one of the many reasons why children have bad eating habits because parents don’t always have good eating habits themselves (Gerritsen, 2016, p. 57). For example, if a parent dislikes eating any green vegetable, it has a huge impact on their children because their children are still at the stage of development, and tend to follow their parent’s example. Teachers working in an Early Childhood Education Services also play a huge role in the early years of a child’s development because they are teaching the children (Gerritsen, 2016, p. 57). It is important that teachers should be aware of nutrition because it’s their job to make sure the children are learning to the best of their ability, which also includes nutritional health so that the children have healthier lives (Gerritsen, 2016, p. 57). The government also has a part in a child’s development because it provides money and resources to create programs to promote health eating and nutrition, which many child and their families aren’t aware about (Gerritsen, 2016, p. 58).
