"During the "Middle Ages", from 476 to about 1100, European civilization slipped into semi-barbarism". It was a very hard and bad time, but a lot of historians debate about if Europe was in a "dark age" or not. The evidence states that Europe was a dark age. There was a lot of evidence that states that Europe was not in a dark age.
How did late medieval governments shape life in positive and in negative ways? The government shaped life in a positive way by protecting the kingdom from invaders and keeping people safe. The monarchs had armies and lots of knight at their disposal. The knights had a code of honor so they were nice to women and others.

The best description of this time period can be represented by four terms, the Golden Age, the Dark Age, the Age of Faith and the Age of Feudalism. Each time caused for a significant change in society that had a tremendous impact. From the troubling times of invasions and destructions to a time of prosperity and progression, the best terms that describe the Middle Ages are the Dark Ages and the Golden Ages.
The Fall of the Roman Empire In ancient Rome there was a lot of change that was always happening. Around 50 BCE until 200 CE the Roman empire was the key to everyone's problems in the Mediterranean world. Some of the changes in the Roman empire caused death and assassinations.
In the Middle Ages, the power of people impacted the society, because of the Feudal System. In other words, the rankings of people. There were four groups. The Kings and Queens were at the top, then the nobles, the knights, and last peasants and serfs(Doc. 1). Serfs and peasants had very little land given and they even had to provide food that they farmed for the knights and nobles.
In the 1300's, an Italian scholar named Petrach used the term "dark ages" to describe the medieval period (Movie Talk: The Dark Ages). Petrach applied the "dark" and "light" terms to learning. Petrach believed that the Romans and Ancient Greeks were in the "light" of learning. The following period, the middle ages, was in the "dark''. Ever since he used the term, historians have been debating whether the time period between the 500's and the 1500's were really a "dark age.
To conclude, the fall of Rome happened over the passing time of years, with multiple factors contributing. Although, if the empire wasn’t in civil conflict and the Huns hadn’t invaded, Rome might have lasted a few more years. But, Rome was bound to fall from the long and slow decline throughout history. This is an important question today as a result of how it provides information that a downfall of a civilization can happen
Between 100 and 600 C.E, the Roman Empire went through a number of political and cultural changes and continuities. Several changes were occurring such as the division and fall of Rome and the rise and spread of Christianity but one thing that continued was the idea of patriarchy and authority in the average Roman family. In the year 100 C.E, most of Europe was in a time of peace and prosperity but after 180 C.E, Rome started to decline due to ineffective leadership and outside invasions, ending the empire’s golden age. Germanic people spread plagues causing a decrease in population and also took the opportunity to attack Rome.
Between the 1500’s and 1600’s absolute monarchs had a great power over their kingdoms. Absolute monarch means one monarch who has unlimited power over a kingdom. During this time absolute monarchs believed that they had the “divine right” to rule over a kingdom, because they were chosen from God to be on the throne. Absolute monarchs did not share power with moves, parliaments, or the church. The absolute monarchs of the 1500’s and 1600’s showed that they held a great deal of power over their kingdoms.
While the Middle Ages often bears the title of being the darkest period in Europe’s history, at its dawn one Frankish ruler created a successful empire that flourished in the ashes of Rome. Charlemagne, the sole surviving son of King Pepin the Short, strove to create a great empire through the principles of conquer, christianize, and civilize. In doing so, a period of prosperity arose, known as the Carolingian Renaissance, which bred a unique system of politics, religion, and cultural atmosphere that would heavily influence the future of medieval Europe. However, without the lasting persona of Charlemagne, the empire ultimately failed, paving the way for Europe’s momentary downfall. When crafting his empire, Charlemagne’s primary focus was to conquer as much land as possible.

During the 1500s and 1600s, Western European countries saw the rise of absolute monarchies. This is where the monarch held complete political power without any limitations from a constitution or laws. These monarchs ruled over their states and people without any legal restrictions. While absolute monarchy is different from limited monarchy, where the monarch's authority is restricted by a constitution, political groups like the aristocracy, clergy, bourgeoisie, and proletarians helped balance the power of the monarchy. Absolutism was a period of tyranny because many rulers at this time only cared about themselves and wanted to make themselves better as kings.

There is an endless debate among historians about the different causes that led to this decline moreover, they couldn’t agree on the most influential factors.
