The East Tennessee Children’s Hospital is a private, independent, nonprofit pediatric medical center. The hospital caters to infants, children and adolescents from East Tennessee, southeastern Kentucky and Southeastern Virginia. It provides rehabilitation for pediatric polio patients and it certified by the state of Tennessee. It is the only comprehensive Regional pediatric center in the East of Tennessee. The East Tennessee Children’s Hospital was founded in 1937 and was first called Knox County Crippled Children’s Hospital and its purpose was to serviced children with polio. In 1940, because of the great amount of admission from the out the Knox County its named was changed to The East Tennessee Crippled Children’s Hospital. It is open to children from birth up to when they turn 21 years old with all different types of illness. It continues to grow in size, and as stated by the hospital it has about 1,800 full part time employees. It appears that The East Tennessee Hospital continues to look internally and externally to foster characteristics of strength by focusing on the needs of these children while overcoming weakness being a lack of space for these kids. So on June 2nd 2016 it started breaking walls on a new building (www.etch.com # throwback Thursday) to seize the opportunities and prepare for the unexpected strategy definitely stretching that is not overseen by the hospital and it shows.

The web site does reflect the mission statement which states “We are committed to providing a safe environment for your child, and that is why Children's Hospital has been named one of the top pediatric hospitals for safety and quality standards in the United States”.
