The effects of the American Revolution caused the colonies a lot of distress. Many family farms were abandoned and many people were in serious debt. After the American Revolution, the Continental army soldiers arrived back home to find that farms were abandoned and citizens were in debt. Daniel Shays, the leader of the Shay’s Rebellion, decided to protest against the Massachusetts government. The Massachusetts government refused to spare economic assistance to farmers (Gale encyclopedia paragraph 1). Because the American Revolution closed off the imperial ports, farmers could not trade with Britain to earn money which led them to have to pay for goods and services with money or silver/gold coins that were not very accessible in the United
