Dylan Shen 03/08/24 World History II DBQ on Factors Motivating the Age of New Imperialism. From the late 19th century to the early 20th century, a rise of new imperialism happened, driven by reasons like money, power, and spreading Western ways. One big reason for new imperialism is money. Rich countries wanted more markets to sell things to and more materials to make stuff with. Documents 1 and 9 show that in Africa and Asia, powerful countries could get things like oil and other raw materials.
Between the 1870s and the 1920s, imperialism increased because of economic, social, and political forces. Economically, many groups were interested in colonizing other countries because of their natural resources. Socially, they wanted to make themselves the highest and they wanted to look the best. Politically, they wanted to make more income and be the richest country. Two groups in particular were the most interested in imperialism.
Those reasons are the incredible amount of natural resources, the need to increase production of new products, and the amazing economical payout. Though these are the main reasons, greed is a factor that should not be forgotten. Africa was given the wonderful gift of useful natural resources. The only unfortunate part for the Africans was that after seeing the insane amount of money that King Leopold II took on, the other European nations wanted to expand their economies and also make more money. Document D in the “Mini Q” packet also titled, “Selected African Colonies and Their Exports” shows that Africa was loaded with natural resources that would increase not only the country's wealth but the income of the entrepreneurs and the production companies.

Kylie Aprilante Conroy World History 23 January 2023 New Imperialism occurred when an industrialized nation takes control of other nations, lands, or territories. The Industrial Revolution assisted with imperialism because of advances in technology which helped European nations to spread their colonies all over less-advanced regions of the world. European imperialism accelerated between 1870 and 1920, following the Industrial Revolution, due to various economic, political, and social forces. The economic, political, and social forces most responsible for new imperialism were European powers that sought colonies for their natural resources, nationalism, and social Darwinism.
One of the many reasons was that Europeans began to believe that the more territory they obtained control for their colonies, the more power one could obtain it would become more solid it would become seen by the others. Other reasons for the Europeans to desire control over African land included that many of the natural resources could only be found within Africa, examples such as diamonds, gold, and as time moved on, rubber. Providing new markets to surrounding places so that manufactured goods could be sold for larger profit. Europeans had many motivations for imperializing Africa. The main motivations were more than likely shielded, as they tried presenting themselves as philanthropist, within reality they were making Africa a horrible place to live with brutal treatment of the natives as well as multiple physical and emotional tolls for the people of
Europe takes advantage of Africa. The main driving forces behind European Imperialism consisted of three fundamental factors which included Political, Technological, and Economic. The way these three components are involved in the driving force because they all helped shape and push everything together to make more efficient. The first component that helped take over land or “European Imperialism” was Technological power.
There were cultural and economic motives for imperialism. First economic, Many countries were industrialized in 1900s, and they needed a lot of materials that they did not have. In order not to depend on others, which nobody wanted, many strong countries started conquering territories and had the necessary materials. Also, followed by the industrialization, population grew as quickly as never before. New jobs were needed and people who were unemployed, left to other countries to find jobs.

My philosophy in caring for infants and toddlers is simple. It consist of love and lots of emotional, physical and cognitive stimulation. The first three years of life are crucial, as children have physical, and cognitive millstones that they have to complete. During these developmental stages, infants and toddlers develop at a much faster rate in comparison to other stages of life. The time is optimal for brain and physical development.
In the 19th century imperialism was an important part of building European empires. The four major motives for imperialism are economic, strategic, religious and political. These motives helped great empires expand their territory and brought new cultures and languages to both the colonised countries and the countries colonising them. European countries such as Britain and France would use their colonies in Africa for economic gain. They would be able to exploit the country’s natural resources and bring them back to the “mother country” to sell and use.
The United States and Japan were also imperialist powers; however, neither was involved in colonizing Africa. Economical, political, and social causes were the roots of imperialism. Economical causes included materials and markets. Materials were a cause as countries wanted to depend on themselves for raw materials.
“As long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can rest.” Nelson Mandela. Recent years especially the 20th century was characterized by violence and disrespect to human rights. For instance, in 1872, Susan B Anthony was denied her right of voting where she voted illegally and after arrested and fined (Anthony, 1872). It was because there was inequality in American especially sex differences where women were left behind.
Overall, imperialism causes a copious number of issues in society that took place in the past and still take place in today 's world. To start with, a few major causes of imperialism are economics, exploration, ethnocentrism, politics, and religion. Economics prompted imperialism due to countries pursuing benefits to improve their economies. Economic benefits mean having control of markets, raw material, and natural resources. Ethnocentrism was a cause of imperialism since its the belief that one race or nation’s values or beliefs were superior to those around them.
