Poe introduced dark romanticism and gothic fiction in the history of literature. From a young age, Poe was always into the art of writing and expressing his thoughts and feelings in writing. Continuing, as Poe grew into his adult years, he developed mental issues such as depression and had traces of being bipolar. In his story Annabel Lee has the theme of Dark Romanticism as the story is about the author falling in love with a young beautiful woman who later dies tragically. Another widely known story is The Raven which is about guilt, grief in which the main character experiences events which causes him to go mad. The theme of Dark Romanticism is the fascination with the irrational, the demonic and the grotesque. Ongoing, when Poe wrote Annabel Lee and The Raven, it opened a new way of writing especially romance stories; nevertheless, it brought a dark twist in Romanticism. Not only did Edgar Allan Poe write about Dark Romanticism, he also introduced Gothic Fiction into the world of literature. Some of the most known poems from Poe are a part of the Gothic fiction genre. His stories such The Tell-Tale Heart and The Black Cat illustrate dark themes such as insanity and loss of the senses that leads into a dark chaos. Moreover, as Poe wrote his stories and poems, it led to people getting ideas from him and creating their own writings with dark themes.
