Edgar began writing during the Romantic time period, and there were major influences during that time that inspired others to begin writing. Poe’s major influence was Lord Byron. It is said that he was the writer that influenced Poe to become the writer he was. At the time Poe was born and began writing the main focus was on individual perception and imagination. This explains how the abandonment and rejection of Poe’s two father figures affected him in a negative way and may have been the reason he had some of his struggles later in life. Second, the text states, “Even though John Allan had plenty of money, he only gave Edgar about a third of what he needed” (Biography of Edgar Allan Poe 1).
