Hi Dr. Nyguyn, This is Elizabeth Picciola. I hope things are going well. I am currently in the process of reapplying to medical school and would like to ask you if you would write me a letter of recommendation again?
In her book, From Out of the Shadows, Viki L. Ruiz argues the contributions to history that was made by farm workers, activists, leaders, volunteers, feminists, flappers, and Mexican women. She explores the lives of the innovative and brave immigrant women, their goals and choices they make, and how they helped develop the Latino American community. While their stories were kept in the shadows, Ruiz used documented investigations and interviews to expose the accounts of these ‘invisible’ women, the communities they created, and the struggles they faced in hostile environments. The narrative and heartfelt approach used by Ruiz give the reader the evidence to understand as well as the details to identify or empathize with.
Huntington’s article is an example of how the inequity and racisms in the history of the border that Hernandez discussed has been carried out and resulted in immigrant bashing and ethnic prejudice being mainstreamed. Huntington’s article is composed of six factors of concern: contiguity, scale, illegality, regional concentration, persistence, and historical presence. When looked at carefully and analyzed, Huntington’s article is nothing more than hate disguised as academic media. Huntington refers to and talks about these immigrants as the main “suspects” of illegal immigration and the cause of many issues in the U.S. Huntington holds a Anglo perspective on the issue of immigration, the same perspective and ideas that the border patrol officers of the past had, explained by Hernandez in her book. Huntington states, “ Anglo protestant values built the American dream” (Huntington).

Good Afternoon, I have a proposal offered by the Major League Baseball executives to produce a movie about the most famous woman of baseball Ms. Effa Manley. Effa Manley changed the negro baseball series with her management over the Newark Eagles and a committee member for Civil Rights. Her husband, Abraham Manley, was granted to operate the Brooklyn Eagles by the NAACP; however, her husband is a gambler and there have been several issues for him, his wife, and the team. To get back on track, I calculated the project will cost one hundred thirty million dollars. The money will cover payment to actors, equipment, and scenery.

“Never Marry a Mexican” is both the title of Sandra Cisneros’ short story published in the collection Woman Hollering Creek, and one of the most ironic as well as provocative statements present in the Chicana literature. The story itself is a critical as well as self-reflexive exercise in understanding concepts such as gender, race and ethnicity. Working with the presumption that the affiliation to distinct gender as well as racial and ethnic background is determined by the certain level of performativity, Cisneros illustrates difficulties in performing a double role , frequently faced by the second and the third generation of Mexican immigrants in the United States. Following paragraphs will consider Cisneros’ story with Judith Butler’s concept
Elisabeth Wiese, 52, worked as a mid-wife when she was younger, but that ended when it was found out that she was preforming abortions; which was illegal. She later went to prison after being convicted for various crimes. Once she was released from prison, Elisabeth looked after children who’s mothers couldn’t take care of them anymore; as well as children born out of wedlock. The mothers would have to pay a fee, which would be given to the parents who adopted their child.
In Sandra Cisneros “Mericans” she creates a young character named Michelle who faces cultural differences and nonunderstanding, gender roles and culture stereotyping which can be exhibited in the real world. The author introduces Michelle as a foreigner with in her own culture, with this being said throughout the story Michelle seemed to be uninterested in her Grandmothers ideals and the principles of the Mexican heritage. The evidence behind this statement is; throughout the passage Michelle refers to her grandmother as being “awful” (Cisneros 93). I think a big reason for this is the fact that the grandmother has the children wait outside the church doors as she goes and say her daily prayers.
California Law SB54 causes a moral predicament in California as it severely limits law enforcement and jailer cooperation with I.C.E. The Orange County Board of Supervisors has voted to join the Federal Government's lawsuit against California over this issue. The passage of this law creates an ethical dilemma in California furthermore, it forms one between California and the Federal Government. The Federal Government is cracking down on illegal immigration in this country and California stepped to the forefront of this issue by passing California “Sanctuary State” Law SB54 therefore, it puts California, California Counties and cities at odds with the Federal Government. The ethical dilemma that this creates is when is it
After careful consideration of the information that has been presented for Ellen Waters, I have decided that she meets the criteria for (F34.1) Persistent Depressive Disorder Severe with atypical features: Early onset. I have come to this conclusion after considering the following information. The synopsis states that Ellen has been referred for a medication consultation by her Psychotherapist whom she has been seeing for the last two years. Criteria A states that the depressed mood has to be present for most of the day, for most days and that this depression must be indicated by “subjective account” or observed by others for at least two years.
The legend of the Virgen de Guadalupe has become a common symbol of hope to many incoming immigrants of Latin American countries. Due to U.S. governmental and economic interventions in Latin American countries, it has caused many people to migrate as refuges and flee unstable environments. These mass migrations have been followed by torturous trails and stories that many times end in death or abuse, however, other times it has allowed refugees to move away and live stable lives in the U.S. However, once in the U.S., these immigrants are faced with discriminatory policy based on false accusations that makes their lives unsafe and unprotected. Therefore, Latinx religious faith becomes a strong component of community for these groups.

Esperanza is physically being an adult by getting her first job (pg 53). She works at the Peter Pan Photo Finishers. Howells’ “Editha” is a story about a young woman who is insisting that the man she is marrying, George, enlist in the upcoming war. Editha views the war as an act of heroism, which will prove George’s love to her. Editha refers to the war as the “Glory war”, this shows the unrealistic and idealistic view that she has regarding warfare. She does not see that war brings death, bloodshed, and conflict to those who chose to fight in it, and she expects George to haphazardly enlist. George views the upcoming war in a truthful realistic manner with the understanding of the consequences that accompany enlisting.
