Educational injustices in Schools: Historically, there has been very bad relations between African Americans and white people that go back all the way to Colonial America. Over the years however, the rights of African Americans have improved which was started by Brown v Board of Education in 1954, the court case that decided that segregation of schools was unconstitutional. Although African Americans got better civil rights acts around the 1960s, there was still protests and killings by white people. In most schools, African Americans and Latin Americans are often expected to be in more College Prep classes than Honors or even AP courses. The Department of Education has said that one fourth of high schools that have majority black or latino students don’t offer second algebra classes. (Quinton). This restriction from students could make their futures harder and possibly less successful as they could have been because most college courses for math and science require two years of algebra. There were also other minority groups like Native Americans that suffer this restrictions of higher classes. In history, the original segregation of black and white people was trying was fought and one by Brown v. Board of Education in 1954 and here we are now dealing with the same problem. Although things have definitely gotten much better from the past, there is still racism and segregation around which needs to be ended everywhere, especially in the U.S because it is unequal and against the law. To help out with this crisis, some celebrities have founded schools for people at risk of dropping out like Magic Johnson and funded them from their careers like Angelina Jolie and Serena Williams (Resmovits). Although some of their newly funded schools help, I believe there could be a better solution which is protesting. Most of the injustices in the past have been solved by the help of protests. I believe that protests are important because they spread the word and let people know the injustices that are not very commonly known by people. For example, Martin Luther King Jr. and other protesters like the Freedom Riders were the ones that showed awareness and played a great part on the passing of laws made for civil rights. One other example would be the women’s movement which was fought by strong women for women’s rights, specifically the right for women to vote. These movement show that protests are successful ways of ending injustices of the society. Today especially, we have the internet to spread
