Society, today, is being disrupted by the negative effects of technology on people's mental health and physical health. Society, today, is also being heavily improved by this technology as it strengthens healthcare and ways to learn new knowledge. The idea discovered in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is whether the benefits of this technology outweigh the disastrous consequences. The society of Fahrenheit 451 has more control with a lack of freedom, substantially less time for leisure chosen by the interests of their citizens, and the quality of life is around the same material-wise, but not emotionally compared to Fahrenheit 451. The standard of living is the same in terms of houses as they have different rooms as seen when Montag ¨opened the bedroom door¨ while still inside his house (Bradbury 9). There are television rooms in both houses which means they can both afford these luxury items. The only thing that differs between these two houses is the lack of front porches on the houses in Fahrenheit as they do not want them to have space to talk about their daily activities going back to the leisure idea. The main difference is the treatment of the children and the quality of their lives as they have ¨school nine days out of ten¨ and their parents describe all children as ¨ruinous¨ (Bradbury 92). With only seeing their parents around three days a month, it does not allow for the ability to have a personal connection with their parents. They are not getting the morals and values they need to develop themselves as their own person. They are only getting the morals provided to them by the school system which is highly government controlled. Students in the US only go to school five days a week and have a three month break in the summer giving them more time to be at home and develop these relationships with their parents and increase their overall happiness at home. When children are happy at home, their home feels more like a safe haven, and their perception of their standard of living increases. This standard of living is a little higher in the Fahrenheit 451 civilization in terms of work hours and working at all. In Montag's family, the only person who works is Montag himself while Mildred sits at home all day listening to the tv. Going back to the idea that Montag has ¨plenty of off hours¨ after work, it is concluded that their work hours are not very long or treacherous, so they can watch government programmed tv shows when they get home
