Like within its name, the American dream still remains a dream in the minds of many families who work hard, hoping for the better. The American dream is not as easy as people say it is. The American Dream is being able to afford the necessities you need, without having to struggle and suffer just to put food on a table for their families. People think it’s easy to live the American Dream, but little do they know that there are people out there struggling to support their family. The American Dream is difficult to achieve but very possible if people could find the opportunity and available to them.
Robots and machines were created to make our lives easier by taking repetitive jobs off our hands and saving time. For instance electric washing machines transformed clothes cleaning from an hours-long task into something accomplished with the push of a button. Recently machines have started to take a bigger role in our lives putting some out of work. Factory and manual labor provide uneducated and unskilled workers with entry level jobs to make a living. In the past, America was promoted as the land of opportunity which brought in new people from around the world, but studies are showing a steady decrease in Immigrants today.
The American dream is having equality, a voice to be heard and stability in one’s life. However, the American Dream is just that, a dream. It cannot be attained because of the power of our government, the ignorant minds of others and the constant want for more. What should be trivial factors in life, such as: race, gender, social class, wealth, etc., all have a significant effect on the impractical American dream. the “TED Talks” video proves this.
The American Dream is not attainable for everyone. Due to racial issues, the American Dream is attainable for everyone. Also reaching the American Dream is harder for immigrants. And also reaching the American Dream is harder for people with disabilities to reach their dreams they want to accomplish. Reaching the American Dream is harder for immigrants because they have to go through all that hard trouble to become an American citizen, however it can be difficult for them because they don't use in our culture or can’t speak the same language as us fellow American .
Impossible Dreams The meaning of the American Dream can be seen as ”A uniquely American vision of the country consisting of three central ideas. The American dream consists of a belief in America as the new Eden- a land of beauty, bounty, and unlimited promise; a feeling of optimism, created by ever expanding opportunity; and a confidence in the triumph of the individual.” Using this definition of the so called “American dream”, it seems to be a great representation of it at first, until you realize it includes everyone as the individual. From the beginning of the Civil war to the end of the War to End All Wars, the American Dream wasn’t possible due to the treatment of the Native Americans, the inequality between women and men, and the false promises given to the immigrants coming to our country in their time of need.
The American dream at one point was what drew people to American; the right to life, liberty, and the happiness. The American dream is the hope to acquire currency, large homes, raise a middle-class family, and pursue what brings people joy in life. But in the year 2016, the American dream becomes hard to believe in. The American dream may still exist, but it is not equally accessible to all Americans. This is true because the American dream is not affordable for everyone, it is not available to everyone from different degrees of education, and race and ethnicity creates large social barriers.
It is getting harder for immigrants living in the United States to fulfill their American Dream, which causes them to put pressure on their first generation American child to fulfill the dream for them. To many immigrant parents, the Dream consist of getting a high paying stable job, and being able to provide for the rest of the family. However, even if a first generation child goes to a well respected college to get the stable, high paying job of their parents dreams, it is sometimes not enough. Due to language barriers and ethnic sounding names, first generation Americans are constantly being put down by employers who care more about appealing to the White public than provide an educated person a job.
