When it comes to developing the future workforce, the disproportionate allocation of resources majorly contributes to the reproduction of white elitism. According to Robert T. Carter, the author of Addressing Cultural Issues in Organizations, there are multiple high-quality resources, such as skilled teachers and advanced technology, that are available within suburban school districts. In contrast, urban school districts mostly consist of people of color do not have access to resources of similar quality. Instead, they have teachers who tend to be under qualified and easily give up on students who are struggling academically. For instance, in Elite Discourse and the Reproduction of Racism, Teun A. van Dijk proposes that elites are influential in the reproduction process of racism. He argues that “white group members and white institutions are daily involved in a multitude of different discourses that express and confirm their dominance”, which plays an important role in producing racism (2 Van Dijk). Such discourses like political, corporation, and the media are what these elites are using to influence the larger population and disadvantage minority groups. The political discourse has been long standing, with the past dealing with oppression and enslaving minorities groups, but can still be talked about nowadays. Most politicians are white and tend to have similar economic class and educational backgrounds. As well, most of the voters are white, so the politicians are pandering more so toward the interests of the white votes than minorities. Lastly, “organizations that have organized access to and influence on political decision are also white” (17 Van Dijk). Although Van Dijk noted that this was seen in Europe, it can certainly apply to the United States. Consequently, these politicians can voice a need to restrict immigration and limit certain civil rights on minority groups. Corporations and Public Relations departments are in more control to what the media learn, as they do not readily provide insight to hiring practices, promotions, interactions or anything deal with minority groups. Also they make any discrimination in the corporations as something that are “regrettable small incidents” (24 Van Dijk). Thus the media helps convey both the political and corporate discourse to the larger population on their biased perspective.
