Living in Egypt is quite different than living here in the United States. There are many different things about the culture of Egypt. Arabic is the main language of Egypt. Another thing is there are different traditions and beliefs of the Egyptians. Religion is extremely important, and they believe in over 200 gods. (Egypt 1) The main religion of Egypt is the Islamic religion, mostly the Sunni branch. (Egypt 1) Islam became the main religion after the Muslim brotherhood in 1928. The first Egyptian constitution was written in 1923. In 1930 a new constitution was written, in the constitution more power was given to the king and power was taken away from the people. In 1952 Egypt became a republic, Gamal Abdel Nasser helped make this happen. He got rid of political parties that supported the old constitution and helped change the constitution. The constitution that he helped write gave the power back to the people and even gave women more rights. (History) Egypt is on of the driest countries. It is considered a arid desert. Most of Egypt is the Sahara and Libyan desert. (Egypt 1) The average temperature for the winter months is 99º F for the high and 57º F for the low. The average temperature for the summer months is 114º F for the high and 57º F for the low. Around the wettest areas of Egypt they get around 200 millimeters of rainfall, this happens during the winter months. The health system is growing, more and more high school graduates are becoming doctors and dentists. The best trained doctors are only in the large cities. There is a large number of health centers and they are continuing to build more. There is more beds being put into public hospitals. Infants suffer from smallpox, diphtheria, tuberculosis, and poliomyelitis. To help prevent these diseases they try and vaccinate the children during their first two years. Adults suffer from Schistosomiasis which is a parasitic disease and Malaria. They can treat Schistosomiasis but reinfection is extremely common. Malaria is less common as it use to be but its mainly in southern Egypt, treatment is provided at health centers and spraying houses. (Egypt
