Mesopotamia and Egypt are two different civilizations that show some difference between them when it comes to their history and growth. Mesopotamia is better than Egypt because of their religious beliefs based on the land of no return, geography for farming due to two rivers and the fertile crescent, and their government which was made up of City states and had laws. Mesopotamians followed a polytheistic belief system, which means they believed in multiple gods instead of one. Unlike the Egyptians, their rulers were priests who were said to be able to speak to the gods. Whereas Egyptians believed their pharaohs were gods. They were surrounded by the Tigris and Euphrates river. The silt brought up by the two rivers guaranteed good farm land. That good farm land helped to create a surplus so Mesopotamians could trade crops for the resources they lacked. Even though the two rivers caused a lot of flooding, it helped the Mesopotamians develop ways to cope and devise methods to deal with the flooding. Which led to many advancements. Egypt on the other hand only had the Nile. Even though the Nile is longer than the two rivers combined, the geography of deserts and mountains restricted Egypt to mainly trading with each other. There river also had predictable flooding, so they knew when it was going to flood. Their flooding did lead to advancements, but not as many as Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia had no other protection besides the two rivers, so because of that they had lots of invaders. Because they had to deal with so many invaders they learned how to defend themselves better and they built mud walls to slow down invaders. Egypt did not have to deal with these frequent attacks because they were geographically well protected from all sides, but that hindered them because when an army did get to them, they didn’t have as much experience in war and combat, which caused their defeat multiple
