Character Analysis: El Internado

For my Proyecto de Cultura, I watched the Spanish Television show, El Internado Laguna Negra; El Internado began filming in 2007 and ended in 2010 with 7 seasons and 71 episodes in total. I watched the first six episodes over the course of several days in October, a little over an hour for each episode, which actually equated to the first season of the show. The show itself is very convoluted and dramatic, but I will try to summarize the events of the episodes as best as I can.

El Internado, as I have explained to others when talking about the show, seems to take many cliché tropes and combine them into one show. However, I realized that did not take away from the value of the show. El Internado was not anything foreign to me, as many popular television shows in America are very dramatic by their very nature and center around high school, and one summer my grandmother got me hooked on a very dramatic soap opera. In addition, when I was younger, I used to watch a television show titled House of Anubis, which, while not quite the same, expressed the same themes of mystery, crime, and trouble with love. The drama itself is nothing new to me, but the level of the drama is. Usually when I see a show that is more on the dramatic side, I am accustomed to one or two cliché tropes, but with El Internado, it seemed like an excess of very dramatic occurrences, so much so that the main plot sometimes seems like an afterthought. I actually plan continue to watch El Internado and most likely other Hispanic shows after it in an attempt to improve my Spanish skills. The only thing that would have made this experience better is a less dramatic show, as they are not my immediate preference. Other than that, I believe I still have a lot of learn in Spanish, and listening to either Spanish television shows or radio shows in Spanish could help me improve
