Rhetorical Analysis One: “NASA Studying 2015 El Nino Event as Never Before” Kasha Patel’s “NASA studying 2015 El Nino event as never before” talks about the upcoming El Nino weather event and how NASA is prepared to study it. According to NASA, this El Nino is going to be one of the strongest on record and this time around, NASA has more tools to study it. With more satellites to observe El Nino, NASA will be able to find out and discover more about how El Nino affects weather in different areas and how interconnected the Earth’s weather system is. He gives a small introduction and then proceeds to show the audience the statistics of the video game industry via infographic. The infographic gives small little tidbits of information that vary from percentage of female gamers, to popular consoles, to the percentage of young people being turned away from trying to purchase a game that’s not suitable for them. The author uses an infographic as the main tool to relay the information given in it to help the audience get through all the information with some pictures here and there as to not bombard the audience with just words. The statistic that “40% of all gamers are female” (How Much Do You Know About Video Games) has a picture of a female sitting on a couch with a game controller looking like she’s actively engaged in what she’s playing. This helps give the impression that not all hard-core gamers are male, though they still are the majority. The author also uses graphs periodically through the article to help relay information that is easier seen than read. One bar graph depicts the percentage of gamers in their respective age groups with 25% of gamers under age 18, 49% between the ages of 18 and 49, with the last 26% being over age 50 as of the year 2010.
