In Bucknell University’s production of Marisol by Jose Rivera, one of the central themes is chaos and the effects of chaos. This theme of chaos is in part seen through the inconsistent timeline of the play. Chaos is also seen through the development of the main characters Marisol, June, and Lenny. Jose Rivera’s purpose in writing about chaos is to parallel the real life experiences of so many people before and even now that live the lives of his characters in Marisol. The chaos is present to give voice to the real people who lived in uncertainty, enduring the insane events of the play.
In the book, The House of the Scorpion, written by Nancy Farmer, Matteo Alacrán is the clone of the most powerful drug lord in the world, who is called El Patrón by everyone he rules. This fictional novel focused on Matteo Alacrán, who struggles with fitting in and being accepted by the world as a human where clones aren't treated better than animals. Eventually Matt escapes Opium and finds his own path. The three topics addressed in this captivating novel are, internal conflict, irony, and protagonist. First of all, internal conflict is shown throughout Matt’s journey from child to a teen, until he finally comes at peace with himself.
First, in “ Aria” By Richard Rodriguez the reader can see that throughout the story he never goes outside to talk to any of his neighbors, nor does he say he ever plans to. Richard believes that due to him not being white or as he calls it a “Gringo”, then he will never be able to spend some recreational time with them. Furthermore, we also see that Richard is one of the few fortunate ones that got to live around this area instead of the mexican side of town this implies that since he and his family do not belong there, therefore they would not be accepted by his neighborhood. Sansón Carrasco, good or evil. Sansón Carrasco’s character does not appear frequently throughout Tome II, but when he does he seems to make a huge impact. Now, is the impact positive or negative, I couldn’t quite determine. In my heart I feel like he killed Don Quixote, but that’s a discussion for the latter part of this meditation. His sister, Olivia, also referred to as Via, is one of the people. Who not only makes an impact on his story in his first year of school, but also his life by loving him unconditionally. Despite his appearance Via has been the only one who can provide him with advice and perspective that adults cannot (Gundersen). Via is a supporting character with long, wavy, dark hair and blue eyes, who becomes a memorable character in Wonder for her independence, selflessness and introverted personality.
Pere Christophe is a major character in this novel, because of how important his presence is to the plot and how important his perspective is to our understanding of the story. He is a French Jesuit missionary, or as the Wendat call him, "a charcoal crow." Upon arriving to the Huron village, the natives were belligerent and inhospitable towards him. They see crows as the bringers of the disease that killed so many of their people when their boats first came. Christophe defends himself by saying the sickness comes from God, as a punishment for their heathen behaviour.
A Summary about Mr. Corte My Dad is probably one of the funniest people you'll meet; he helps out in Avon’s communities and likes to get involved in projects to help other people. Mr. Corte may have an intimidating appearance but he’s a soft teddy bear on the inside. Her life has also turned back again because she is settling into Alabama and starting to be smart again. Along her journey she faces many challenges because of language and other people not being friendly and welcoming to her. The book Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai is about a girl named Ha that is a refugee from the city of Saigon in Vietnam.
Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak is an interesting children’s picture book. The main character is a little boy named Max, who has a wild imagination. He uses all five senses as well as thought and his actions to express his personality as well as how he reacts and interacts with his surroundings. Max’s id, ego and super-ego are greatly shown in this book through the way that the author has portrayed him. Not only is this book a children’s story, but it can also be perceived as a life lesson.
People learn little from success, but much from failure. In a story by William Steig a little mouse named Doctor De Soto shows the meaning of success and hard work. Doctor De Soto and his wife dodge a not so sly fox. Doctor De Soto and his wife plan ahead to trick a not so sly fox as they knew that the fox would back stab them and try to eat them as a delicious snack , but as the fox thinks he's about to have a delicious snack Doctor De Soto and his wife had a surprise for the fox, they glue the sly ungrateful fox's mouth shut. In this story you would look though and find many Habits of Mind traits, they're 16 different traits in the Habits of Mind including Striving for Accuracy, Thinking Flexibly, and Thinking Interdependently which will be used and explained in the next few paragraphs.
