Electrolytes are essentially salts which are crucial in order for certain parts of your body to function correctly. These include sodium, chloride, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and many more. They help keep your nerve impulses and pH level at an average rate. The lower the pH level, the more acidic and less oxygenated the fluid is; the higher the pH level, the more alkaline and oxygenated the fluid is. Electrolytes also increase absorption of fluids into the bloodstream which helps to prevent dehydration. Without electrolytes, the muscles would cramp up as well.
