Chapter 5 During the Holocaust, Elie Wiesel changes from a Spiritual and a boy with faith, to a cold hearted, spiritually dead emotional man. Elie Wiesel is saying through this one sentence that he wrote the book to defeat the Nazis one last time. If Elie was indifferent to his memories of the living nightmare that was the Holocaust, he would be no better than the Nazis. The indifference of the Nazis to their actions is what makes them horrible. When a person kills another person a part of the killer is lost. The Nazis somehow managed however to beat mortality in that sense.
What Wiesel was referring too is not having a second holocaust and that if people learned about the way of life inside a camp, they would not want that same way of life again. Another reason for writing was to preserve the memories of a kid inside a camp (Wiesel vii). During the time of the camps Wiesel is a young adolescent put to work for the Nazis. He explains what he saw like death and gore which he says that a kid like him shouldn 't have to see that other than in a form of literature. The next reason for Wiesel’s writing is so that he may fight against people who would forget about such a crucial event (Wiesel Acceptance Speech).
Author Bio Elie Wiesel, born September 30, 1928, is married to Marion Wiesel, who he has one son with. Elie Wiesel is a professor at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts, he’s also taught at the City University of New York, and was a visiting scholar at Yale. Elie Wiesel is the Advisory Board chairman of the newspaper Algemeiner Journal. Elie Wiesel wrote Night based on his personal experience as a holocaust survivor. Elie Wiesel has received a Nobel Peace Prize, a Congressional Gold Medal, a Presidential Medal of Freedom awarded by George H. W. Bush, and many more awards.
Elie wrote the book so this would never happen again and to tell people what he really had to go through because some people think the holocaust was fake or not as bad as people make it but it really is bad because million of jews died and Elie was one of the surviuojs of that and had to watch his whole family leave ad die infront of him and he wants people to know that all those events of staving, being beaten to death, watching his father slowly die over the years, he wanted to commit subside so many times he wrote the book so these events won't happen to nobody ever again or have to go through what he had to go through during his time in the Holocaust, It's amazing how he survived it and lived to tell his side of the

This boy is a symbol; a version of himself separated and personified as another victim, lost to the horrors of the Holocaust. At first Elie did not want to talk about the Holocaust, what he experiences because he just wanted to forget everything but he could’t. Elie Wiesel slowly realizes that you can’t forget such traumatizing memory so easily and you can’t not talk about it either. People have to learn to hear the things that happened, he wanted himself to be herd so individuals understand that experiencing something like the Holocaust is not traumatizing. Through his book Night, Elie Wiesel opened a foundation for humanity to combat indifference, injustice and intolerance. Rosenblatt’s article explains how Wiesel taught individuals that “silence speaks to us as words, humanity is what you do in response to anguish and that suffering has meaning if it helps you take one step forward, from the darkness of grief to the light of hope”.
Elie Wiesel voiced his emotions and thoughts of the horrors done to Jewish people during World War II whilst developing his claim. Wiesel “remember[s] his bewilderment,” “his astonishment,” and “his anguish” when he saw they were dropped into the ghetto to become slaves and to be slaughtered. He repeats the words “I remember” because he and the world, especially those who suffered in the ghettos and camps, would never be able to forget how innocent suffered. Consequently, he emphasized that “no one” has the right to advocate for the dead. Like many other people in the world, he lost his family during the war.
Although he learned a lot due to books, he believes that each book teaches you a lesson. He believes that all bad books usually have a greater lesson to teach you than the good books. Imagine, your family being stripped of all their belongings, of their home, and of their lives, for a simple belief. And the story that Elie describes tells us of the graphic and sad actions the Nazis did to these people, to the young, the sick, and the healthy, they were being put down and were being ripped away from what they believed as well. He felt it was important to relay the lessons he learned, so that others will not have to go through the same hardship, in the future. This reflects Moishe the Beadle’s struggles “Infants were tossed into the air and used as targets for the machine guns” (Wiesel, 6). These monstrous events are the result of not acting because they felt no personal connection. This resulted in not bearing witness, and the massive loss of life during The Holocaust. Making the choice to bear witness needs to be made before it is too late.
