The Elizabethan Era had many rules and laws, so many that sometimes they were hard to keep track of. The capital offenses included robbery, larceny/theft, rape, and arson (Harrison). The more frequently committed crimes included theft, begging, cutpurses, adultery, debtors, poaching, forgery, fraud, and dice-cogging (Elizabethan Crime). In a desperate effort to control how the less fortunate and homeless behaved, Parliament passed the Poor Laws, which made it illegal to beg for food and money (Harrison). These laws went so far as to make it illegal to live on the streets (Crime and Punishment).
Shakespearean clothing fits in the Elizabethan category. The Elizabethan Era is also known as the Golden Age due to the European’s growth in power. Elizabethan Era clothing was very fancy, complex, and colorful. Huge, puffy dresses and frilly collars come to mind when thinking about this era’s style. The people considered fashion very important.
Elizabeth Bathory is an mysterious woman. Elizabeth is very self conscience she feels the need to come up with things that will make her forever young. She does this thing in anon-normal way. Ms. bathory was born august 7, 1560 in Hungary married to Ferenc Nadasdy in 1575 they had four daughters Orsolya Nadasdy, Anastasia Nadasdy , Anna Nadasdy. Also had four sons Pal Nadasdy , Miklos Nasady , Gyoray Nadasdy , Andras Nadasdy.
Richard Ramirez once stated, “Violent delights tend to have violent endings.” Sports were very different at this time, a lot of violence was shown between different games, such as animal blood sports which were very serious. Athletic competitions have been around since the beginning of time. Popular sports in the Elizabethan Era were the animal blood sports which involved bears, bulls, cocks and dogs. People during the Elizabethan era may have liked the blood sports, but they always had violent endings.
Physicians, and Medicine During the Elizabethan Time The Elizabethan time period was from 1558 through 1603 known as the Renaissance. During the Renaissance there was not any running water, so people would have to throw their waste in the streets. With people’s waste in the street came many illnesses including The Plague. Even a minor scrap could kill you in the next minute.

The technology of today was not available during the Elizabethan Era. The entertainment choices also changed according to one’s financial status. Compared to the lower class, the wealthy had many more opportunities. Due to the lack of modern technology, the upper class of the Elizabethan Era spent their free time playing cards, hosting meals, dancing, going to festivals, participating in tournaments, hunting, and other activities.
Many people do not realize how fortunate they are to have the medical advances and medical technology we easily have the right to use. People from many years ago did not have specialized doctors and medicine to cure their diseases that we easily have access to today. (Ramsey) Many civilizations used what they thought to be alleviating processes, but medical experts today know now were pointless and dangerous. Among these people were the Elizabethans.
Can you imagine living in a world with no drive through and microwaved Ramen noodles? Well that is the kind of world that William Shakespeare lived in. During the Elizabethan Era new foods from the New World were being discovered, like tomatoes and potatoes. Food in the Renaissance Period was much different than it is today.

A Comparison of Elizabethan England and Modern-Day England The Elizabethan Era is often considered the ‘Golden Age’ or ‘Renaissance’ of English History. It was called Elizabethan simply because it coincided with Queen Elizabeth I’s rule. It was a generation of expansion of ideas and flowering of poetry, music, and literature and it greatly contributed to the theatre field.
Elizabethan Era vs. Modern Era: Similarities and Differences The Elizabethan era is considered as the Golden age in English history. It is called Elizabethan era because of Queen Elizabeth I and her reign. The era is most famous for theatre, because of plays that broke free of England’s past style of theatre that was composed by William Shakespeare and many others. There are a lot of similarities and differences between this era and the modern era. During the Elizabethan era, women were considered subordinate to men.
Each sex has its’ specialty, both sexes must be equal; people in general must be equal. By studying Shakespeare and by going deeper through analyzing and getting preoccupied with, we learn how to “brainstorm” the people, the culture and the ethics of that era and create opinions and thoughts about those centuries. In my opinion, Shakespeare is a modern, a contemporary artist and writer of his era who “sends” and passes messages through his plays. Each one of us, the readers and learners of Shakespeare, creates a special, unique opinion about Shakespeare and literature in general. We do not all think in the same way, people are unique.
During the Elizabethan period, the role of women in society was very different from what it is today. According to the system of patriarchal society that dictated that women were inferior to men, they had to obey the male figures in their lives. The woman was seen as the weaker sex either physically or emotionally which meant that it was entirely dependent on her husband if married and members of his family if single. Moreover, in the Elizabethan theater, women were not allowed to play because of this hierarchy. Therefore, they were replaced by men disguised as women.
To be of significance though is how he developed in the professional choices he made forcing one to conclude that he might have had a good and effective early grooming. Having said all this, Shakespeare became one of the greatest play writers of all time and a history maker field of thought expressed through art. If anything, Shakespeare having been born at the time of renaissance and precisely when England was in cultural transition, he became a good and one of the most effective conduits of positive reflection in a society he beleaguered by cultural confusion. At the centre of his art was a vocal and lasting message beckoning all at sundry to accept the period as the winds of change all across Europe, to consider the influence at play and make personally and socially sound decision that will affect even generation to come.
Despite the government having a rather equal relationship in terms of class since the commoners are involved, the Elizabethan society was patriarchal; men were superior to women because they were the weaker sex, physically and emotionally. Regardless of social class, women were not allowed to vote, not allowed to go to a university, not allowed to have professions such as being lawyers or doctors; only domestic service, not allowed to act in theatres, and most certainly not allowed to inherit any of her father’s titles, except for the crown of course, and if the woman is the only heir of her father. Aside from all these limitations, women are expected to be fully obedient to their husbands, meaning never to question them; only obedience, for disobedience would mean punishment, to be dependent on their male relatives especially if they were single, to bear children as much as possible to keep the lineage alive, to maintain the household and manage everything, and still be presentable in terms of appearance, especially the women of the high social class. But, compared to the women of other societies, Elizabethan women exercise far more freedom than any women in world history. Especially those of the noble class, women were allowed education (from tutors) in subjects other than housewifery.
