Embryonic Stem cell research is a controversial issue in America right now and has been for years. Personally when I first saw read about this topic I knew I was going to be against it because of my religious beliefs. However, after doing more research and reading more into it, I actually think we need to continue funding for this. I know many people would disagree with me but this could save millions of people from suffering every day. Many people argue that the embryo dies from this, which is why I thought I was going to be against this. But, there ways that stem cell research can be done without killing embryos. Also, the research from this could potentially lead to the cure of cancer which would save millions of lives.

Over 100 million people, in America, suffer from diseases that eventually may be treated more effectively or even cured with embryonic stem cell therapy. Susan Frank says,
“The critics of life-saving stem cell research technologies use false claims, an anti-technology bias and an alarmist view of sensibly and ethically practiced medical research. Instead, progressives and conservatives should join together and affirm that embryonic stem cell research holds great promise for those suffering from diseases; thank responsible and ethical scientists for their tireless efforts; and hope that, someday soon, cures will be discovered.”(Frank) I don’t think people who are against this research haven’t thought about all the lives that could be changed and saved. One of the biggest health benefits I have read about is spinal cord repair.

These stem cells could potentially give the people with severed spinal cords, who are paralyzed, a chance at a normal life. I know if I was stuck in a wheel chair I would want research like this to be done so I would have hope that maybe one day I would get to live a normal life outside of a wheel chair.
