To begin the project, each member of the group chose a lens to research.
Embryonic stem cell treatment has the potential to be very beneficial to our society. Nevertheless, many people oppose the use of embryonic stem cells due to the fact that they are extracted from human embryos. They believe that embryos are human life and should possess the same rights that humans do.
Although some people may believe that embryonic stem cell research is immoral, scientists and doctors should be allowed to use them in research and medical treatments. Embryonic stem cells have garnered some controversy since the discovery of their use in medicine back in 1998. This is a more ethical way of extracting embryonic stem cells seeing as these specific embryos would be destroyed anyways. Therefore, why not use them for science? In a way religious beliefs are hindering medical advancement, but the religious beliefs have a very understandable moral basis. This is why I tend to sway more toward the scientist’s side of the conflict, though I also have an understanding of why the religious side is against it.

It is human nature that step parents have a hard time expressing love or showing salacity towards children who are not biologically theirs or related to them, and it is also understandable that residing in a home with children who are not biologically yours, to help raise can be very frustrating and challenging. With that said, I support Daly and Wilson’s view on their article “Violence against Stepchildren”. However, that doesn’t mean that stepparents are solely responsible for the high rate of abuse shown towards stepchildren. Research by Richard J. Gelles and John W. Harrop shows that single parents are also highly responsible for violence towards their children. I agree that children who grow up in single parent/stepparent families are at greater risk for child abuse and violence more so, then if they were residing in a two-parent, nuclear, biological family environment.

A lot of the opposition to stem cell research comes from the moral belief that human life begins at conception and some see it that destroying an embryo for medical research or even to treat another human is morally the same as killing a human child or adult for research.
