Emergent bilingual students are not helped enough, misread, and evaluated too much in public schools, but with that said, their teachers have an influential role in their educational experiences. Curriculum and Instruction 312 is a basic explanation of the problems and possibilities that are relevant to this student population that continues to increase in size. The course has distinctly focused on community, racial, legislative, and academic matters associated with the education of young emergent bilingual students. Translanguaging pedagogies incorporate every practice that is opposed to the classification of English, alternatively establishing English proficiency using the home language as a scaffold. I see my cooperating teacher doing this with the students in her classroom when explaining certain words or concepts in English. For example, one of the students could not comprehend the word “Saint”, so my cooperating teacher told them the word in Spanish, which is “Santo”, and they were better able to understand the conversation we were having in the classroom. Analytical multilingual consciousness establishes students ' knowledge of the community, legislative, and fiscal conflicts encompassing the use of numerous languages. English educational literacy should be established through a demanding course of study integrated with clear, obvious language education. Lisa Delpit, in her article No Kinda Sense, says that “if students are to acquire a second language form in school, teachers must not only see their students as non-deficient, they must understand their brilliance, and the brilliance of their home language” (42). Teachers that are receptive to emergent bilingual students have an in depth understanding of how language and subject matter education occur and have a broad span of tactics and methods to education as well. The only and greatest way for emergent bilingual students to achieve success in school is if we give them real chances in our classrooms to use language. According to Lucas, Henze, and Donato, there are a couple things we can do as teachers to contribute to the success of emergent bilingual students in our classrooms. We should put worth on language and culture and have high hopes for our emergent bilingual students. When one student in my practicum class went to Mexico for two weeks, my cooperating teacher made it a point to ask her about her trip and allowed the student to tell the class about her family in Mexico. This way, there is a duty placed on us for continued examination and education of emergent bilingual students. In terms of motivating emergent bilingual students to take part in in the classroom, Williams says that we must have instructional dialogue, a classroom community, and develop an appreciation of language. The fact that all emergent bilingual children might learn in different ways implies that we as teachers must welcome individual differences in their language growth in our classrooms.
