As the whole development of an adolescent takes place within his/her own perception, within the family at home and at school with peers, the conflicts and changes of these will act as the associated factors for the emotional and behavioral problems of them. Age, gender, ethnicity, religion and habits such as sleep pattern and habit of substance abuse are the individual factors that determine the emotional and behavioral health. A sense of security at home and in the immediate environment, such as in neighborhoods and at school has a significant impact on the mental wellbeing of adolescents.
Family related issues at home such as the monthly income of the family, parents’ conflicts, and parent’s habits, relationships with parents and siblings and having caring, supportive and trusted relationships with family members are important factors behind the healthy development of adolescents. How adolescent generally feel about their family, reflect the quality of relationships they have with their families. Proper loving and caring relationship with members of the family can make the adolescents confident and secure about their lives leading to improved mental well-being.
