Emotions; A consensus that most humans grasp, but what happens when you live in a society where every single person is deprived of memories, emotions, and loved ones are at risk of death? We see this concept a lot in character Jonas in our story The Giver. We read along as Jonas learns about the difficulty of emotions, their lack of memories, and the unnerving actions of his community. We start to see his opinion about his community shift when he learns the true meaning of "releasing", and at the beginning of his training with the giver. Let's observe how and when Jonas's point of view changes on his community.
When Jonas gets his role as the receiver of his community, he slowly but surely starts to get more curious about the secrets that his community has been hiding. The very first time we see him form an opinion about his community is whenever he is receiving memories for the first time. He starts to feel emotions for the first time. During one of his training sessions with the giver, he receives a memory that stuck out to him throughout the entire novel. This memory was the snow incident. In this memory, we hear Jonas sledding down a hill then he gets hurt. This is the first time he has felt pain

To keep this explanation short release is basically injecting anyone that has broken the rules with a liquid that kills them. Instead of the Giver just telling Jonas he makes him watch his father perform a release. The giver makes him watch it so that he knows that his community shows no remorse to the people that they kill. Jonas’s father is so clueless that he says “All done, that wasn’t so hard was it?” take in mind that he says this after killing the newborn. Jonas is mortified at this and we can conclude this when he says.” He killed it, My father killed it.” This is right before Jonas comes to a conclusion to escape the
