Islam is one of the biggest religions in the world and it spread very quickly. The architecture of Mosques is much different than that of Christian churches. How the acrchitecture came about is from their own faith. is Muslims have many different monuments that mean different things to them, such as The Dome and the Great Mosque of Cordoba. With over 1 billion believers, Islam is one of the most followed religions in the world. It is a monotheistic faith and is based on the revelations received by the Prophet Muhammad. The Arabic word Islam means “submission”. Which reflects the faith's central theme of submitting oneself to the will of Allah. According to Islamic tradition, the angel Gabriel appeared to the Prophet over a 20-year time period. He gave him many messages from Allah. Muslims believe it contains the actual word of Allah. Islamic practices center on the Five Pillars of Islam—faith; prayer; fasting; pilgrimage to Mecca; and alms—and include several holidays and rituals as well. The Dome of the Rock is one of the most important Islamic monuments. Although many people thought it was, it is not a mosque. It was built between 685 and 691/2 by Abd al-Malik.
The Dome is located on the Haram al-Shari. In the center of the Dome of the Rock sits a large rock, which is believed to be the location where Abraham was going to sacrifice his son Ismail. However, Muslims now believe that the Rock commemorates the night journey of Muhammad. The night jourmey was when the Angel Gabriel came to Muhammad while he slept in Mecca and took him to al-Masjid al-Aqsa. From the Rock, Muhammad traveled to heaven, where he met the other prophets Moses and Christ where he witnessed paradise and hell and finally saw
