Many building in the world are very inefficient in energy use. This is very big concern seeing how very important is to conserve energy. Most of the United States Energy comes from non-renewable sources such as fossil fuels. So to better energy conservation, ill be looking to energy audit the Nike Store in the Wisconsin Dells to see ho we can improve our energy just from local building. From this Audit I be able to conduct the problems from the store and create solutions from the store to make it a very energy efficient building by looking at the electricity use, heating/cooling use, and the solutions to the problems.

The Nike Store is at the mall were connected by many other stores sharing the same energy source from the city. Already much …show more content…

Much energy is being used from it. Most rooms in the store feel overly warm which means more heat energy is being used. Thermostat during fall season averages at 71 degrees Fahrenheit which is above the average for a building. The heating and cooling is at 24/7 use and typically uses more energy at weather gets much cooler or hotter. It uses a long duct system to transfer heating and cooling throughout the store. Observing the duct system, I noticed high amounts of dents and cracks which creates leakage and slows down where heating and cooling needs to go. Much of the building has insulations, but by entrances and windows it lacks. The doors and windows have standard weather stripping but have many leaks for air to escape through. Much of the stores windows are covered by signs which prevent the store from absorbing natural sunlight which provides heat. The about 45% of the store uses rugs or carpets which helps absorb heat, while the rest uses tiles. The bathrooms lack heat conservation, with hot water constantly used from sink. Sometimes the front entrance is left open which draws the stores warm or cold air, which is big energy waste. Recycling is at high use in the store, much of the broken down card boxes and other recycle material is strongly recommended on being put in the recycling container every day. Some recycling material is misplaced and not thrown away …show more content…

There many solutions to the energy problems. For the store lights, the should be all be replaced to fluorescent lights. The benefits of fluorescent lighting are it uses about 25- 35% of the energy compared to incandescent lightning. It also lasts 10 times longer from 7,000 to 24,000 hours. This will improve daylighting at the store. The store should also avoid most of the cities power and instead uses solar power as it main source of electrical energy. This will significantly decrease energy use while also benefiting lower electricity bill. One big thing that needs to be done is better habits in terms of energy conservation, such as shutting of the TV when your done watching it or unplugging your devices when it done charging. Unplug unnecessary stuff that’s not being used. Even if you aren’t physically using it, some stuff can still use electricity and still decrease energy. All light switches should be replaced with sensors. This is very beneficial for it keeps lights shut off when no ones are there and prevents people from leaving the lights on. Though you can’t cut off the 24/7 use items such as the fridge, it should be monitored on its wattage uses to see if you can replace it with lower wattage using device, such as replacing a 250-watt TV for a 100-watt TV. Computers should also be powered down to reduce energy
