Martin Luther was against the supremacy of the Catholic Church, and most of their practices (Brown Tindall, Emory Shi, 17-18), just as the English Puritans were. English Puritans wanted to purify the church, and get rid of any Catholic element present (Brown Tindall, Emory Shi, 42), because as Luther and they believed, just by worshiping God in plain, and by each individual’s faith alone, salvation could be achieved (Brown Tindall, Emory Shi,18,42).
C is the correct answer. Puritans opposed Catholic elements such as the holy water, organ music, elegant robes, jeweled crosses, and worship of saints because they believed religion should be simplified to its basics: just worshiping God in plain (Brown Tindall, Emory Shi, 42).
D is incorrect. Religious freedom lets all people hold their own religious beliefs and express them without fearing persecution or being denied equal rights of citizenship (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). While it is true that the English Puritans wanted to freely exercise their beliefs, at the same time they did not accept the idea of others having religious freedom as well.
