The Relationship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu Research Paper The bond between Enkidu and Gilgamesh is the heart of the Sumerian epic. I took a look back to when Enkidu and Gilgamesh first encounter as enemies and battle each other. During this epic battle Gilgamesh comes to his sense that what he think about women and life overall could be incorrect. He acquires from Enkidu and Enkidu studies and becomes more civilized in his bond with Gilgamesh. When the gods come to a decision to penalize Enkidu with death because of the murder of Humbaba the forest ogre and the Bull of Heaven, Gilgamesh is filled with grief and will not leave his best friend side that is dying, he also will not allow him to be buried for six days and, once Enkidu pass away, Gilgamesh goes off on his quest to find eternal life so he …show more content…

Gilgamesh believes that an evil fate has robbed him, as if he lost his most valuable person in his life. Even though Gilgamesh suffers from his death and feels angry, but he recognizes destiny and his vulnerability. He feels like a huge part of him is missing inside; he lost a person that was equal to himself, a partner in crime, a brother. Nothing will be able to fill this place in his heart. Gilgamesh is condemned to wonder through the rest of his life being gloomy and lonely. The pain the Gilgamesh is encountering clearly shows the strong bond that unites them. However, his worry about his death tracks him, means that he viewed Enkidu as a reflection of himself, an adjusted ego and not just a friend. For Gilgamesh, Enkidu’s passing is both an example of what’s going to happen to him sooner or later, and rest of his own death.
