Before 1920, entertainment was not as widely popular in the United States. This would include the music, sporting events and theater. The radio was only just now created in the 1920’s and was becoming very popular instantly. The radio was a way for groups and families to gather and listen to their favorite music such as the upcoming hit music, Jazz. Music was a very popular type of entertainment. It had multiple types of music, such as Jazz and The Blues. Famous creators of the new Jazz consist of Aaron Copland and George Gershwin. Both playing a minor role in Jazz. Due to the segregation in the 1920’s, white actors painted their face to play a black role in a movie. They used stereotyped manners to act like a black would during that time period. For example, Al Johnson (white), played the lead as Jack Robinson (black) in the award winning movie The Jazz Singer released in 1927. Another widely shared form of entertainment in the U.S was sports. During the 1920’s sports became more popular than ever. Sports such as baseball and football were shared across the country and most famous especially in North Carolina. Other sports like boxing and horse racing were popular, however not shared across the country because it leaded to gambling. Some of the most famous athletes during the time were Babe Ruth and Jack Dempsey. Babe Ruth was the star of baseball. He was known as the best player in history, and was the most popular player amongst all sports. He came in first for All American player eight times in a row. He also lead his yankees to six straight World Series wins. On the other hand, Jack Dempsey was the power house of boxing.
