The history of consumption is a difficult subject to study. Consumptions is a more modern study because of the difficulty historians have during research. As broad of a subject as it is, the main focus of this essay will be the history of consumption in the Entertainment industry post-1920. American music culture was shaped, movies became a national pastime, and sports were becoming increasingly popular. Americans have chosen to revolve their lives around music, some listening to it all day. Around 700 movies were being produced a year, with countless numbers of movies becoming famous internationally. Many companies such as Paramount, 20th Century Fox, MGM and The Walt Disney Company was created. This industry was so popular, today it is a multi-billion industry; all of these names are still known in every household today. Larger companies, like Walt Disney, had so many consumers investing in their products that they were able to make large amusement parks that have now become a cultural must in today's society. Sports also became a large form of entertainment for consumers. In the 20’s thousands of sports fans flocked sport stadiums and supported their home team. Professional athletes became heroes, like Babe Ruth, which created an industry within an industry. People buy paraphernalia of their favorite player or team: Shirts, blankets, bobble head figures and even plates are sold generating $4.62 billion. Both playing and watching sports has become one of the largest forms of entertainment consumerism.
