What has the ability to ruin society? According to Neal Gabler entertainment has the capacity “to overturn morality, to poison the springs of domestic happiness, to dissolve the ties to our social order, and to involve our country in ruin.” Entertainment is the action of providing enjoyment or pleasure of a performance, game, etc. Entertainment provides many positive outcomes of enjoyment for us, but entertainment has the capacity to poison the minds of people ruining society.
There are a wide range of entertainments that do not have the ability to ruin society, but rather satisfy one's enjoyment or pleasure. Examples of these enjoyable entertainments are sports, reading and music. Music is a form of entertainment that allows people to express …show more content…

Movies have a wide range of genres, but there are oversexulized movies such as “Fifty Shades of Grey” or violent movies such as “Rambo” that do exist today. These movies have the ability to poison the minds of people. Rambo exhibits extreme violence of gutting people, ripping bodies apart, and even beheading. Fifty Shades of Gray exhibit oversexulization and depicts a woman being submissive to the male, which is against morality of one respecting themselves. Video Games for young children such as Call of Duty, Modern Warfare and Grand Theft Auto all include violence that poison the young minds of children. According to studies of “Effects of Playing Violent Video Games” ran by Craig A. Anderson the Director of The Department of Psychology at Iowa State University, “Meta-analysis reveals that exposure to violent video games is significantly linked to increases in aggressive behaviour” ,and linked to, “real-world types of aggression.” Social media is a very common form of entertainment today. The problem with social media is that it has the ability to manipulate and cover some truth of the story, but not all. One example is an article titled “Who’s the Real Monster?” ,picturing a woman in a hijab walking past victims of a terror attack. The photo had been manipulated emphasizing the woman in a hijab walking past the victims of the terror attack, but in truth there had been many other pedestrians that were seen doing the same exact
