It is still somewhat up in the air as to why exactly Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris did what they did on that April morning in 1999. The boys were undoubtedly troubled by what ails most younger men. However, these boys seemed to take their grievances to the extreme. In the following I will attempt to dive into just who Dylan and Eric were and why they did it. Of the two ,Dylan was likely the most mentally stable, but was very easily influenced by the explosion of rage that was Eric Harris. Dylan sought his approval. In the “basement tapes” this is most clear. He is much more aggressive and not at all like his usual self. This is what made them decent partners in this situation. Eric Harris was described by Special Agent Dwayne Fuselier as psychopathic. This diagnosis is undeniable when reading some of Eric’s own writings. He has no remorse for anything. Eric present the most convincing lie to cover himself up. One instance of how manipulative and convincing he could be is when he wrote a paper for his Government teacher on the time he was arrested. Eric tried his very best to make it seem like the opposite of the reality. He made his teacher believe that he had learned a lesson. After the shooting Mr Tonelli , the government teacher, went to Agent Fuselier for answers. He didn’t understand how he had been so thoroughly lied to. Fuselier responded “Civilians believe a good psychopath.” (Dave Cullen 146). In the end his reasoning cannot be fully explained anymore than he was very seriously ill. It was with this lack of sympathy of being psychopath that he was able to devise such an awful event and convince his weak minded friend to join him.
