In Ernest Hemmingway a Biography, Mary V. Dearborn goes through Ernest Hemmingway’s entire life and she is the first girl to ever do so. Ernest Miller Hemmingway was born on July 21st, 1899 in Oak Park, Illinois His father, Clarence Edmonds Hemingway, was a physician, and his mother, Grace Hall Hemingway, was a musician. He was one of four siblings Marcelline Doris came first, then Ernest, Ursula, and Madelaine. It was latter know that Ernest ended up disliking his mother and blaming her for his father’s suicide. Johnston the article goes into detail about the original version of “Indian Camp,” That Ernest Hemmingway originally wrote eight extra pages and called it “Three Shots,” where Nick Adams is in the camp but is afraid of the dark. Nick is watching his father and uncle’s shadow while they are by the fire. The deleted section is a flashback of events that happened the night before and in the morning Nicks father and uncle are headed out fishing and they tell him to fire three shots if he is distressed or in danger. Nick is left alone in camp and gets undressed in the tent and then Nick is all of a sudden afraid of dying and fires three shots calling his father and uncle back to camp.
