America’s history, or the history of any nation, is directly tied to its future. The past is where we learn who we are. The future is where we foresee who we’re going to be. It’s hard to think about how the repercussions of our actions today will be perceived in a hundred years. Whether history will remember us fondly or persecute us for our actions. That is why it is important to learn from our mistakes and never forget them, to be mindful of how our actions will impact others, and to remember and be proud of all the good things we have done. This applies whether you’re a single person or a powerful nation.

Today, people still show dislike towards America due to its past sins such as the forced slavery and inequality of African Americans and the taking of Native American land. Even though these things happened decades ago, people will not forget these atrocities and for good reason.
Our past is also what made America the way it is today. The belief in “manifest destiny” pushed America to be a country from sea to shining sea. The progress of invention and new thinking made America more successful and made it, as well as the rest of the world, a better place to live.
The First World War turned America into a world power and made it more involved in the affairs of European countries. World War Two made America one of the most powerful countries the world had ever seen. The 9/11 attacks caused America to make war with terrorism no matter where it was hiding.
Without these good and even bad events in America’s past, its present and its future as a nation would be completely different.
If we don’t know where we’ve been, how can we know where we’re going? That’s why it is important to remember not just the good things, but also all the hardships America has gone through. For if we do not remember, there is nothing to stop them from happening
