Slow Down, Children At Play!

Engines rev! Dust flies! Is this the scene from a NASCAR race? No. Unfortunately, this is the scene outside my window almost daily. I live on a rural country road in a small housing development. Lately, some new neighbors have caused havoc by excessively speeding on our little road. This causes me great concern. I feel it is very important, despite the fact there is no posted speed limit, people drive very slowly on our road. I feel this way for many reasons. First of all, the excessive speed is very noisy. It disturbs both sleeping people, as well as dogs. Also, our road is not paved. Therefore, speeding produces a great amount of dust. Most importantly, many small children live and play in our development. They could easily be hurt by moving cars. …show more content…

When people are driving late at night, the cars wake up my neighbors and I, including our pets. My dad cannot fall back asleep once he wakes up, so loud cars are a problem for him. Also, almost everyone in the neighborhood has a dog. Loud cars disturb them, causing them to bark. The barks wake up anyone who isn't already awake from the loud cars, which means that basically everyone in the neighborhood is awake when they should be sleeping. If cars were driving slowly, people would be able to sleep better. Another big problem is that the road is not paved. Fast cars stir up the little rocks and make dust go everywhere. The small rocks fly into people's yards, and the dust pollutes the air. These could cause big problems over time. If your yard is full of rocks, it could hurt your lawnmower or your feet if you are walking barefoot. If there is too much dust in the air, it could cause lung problems. If cars were driving slowly, we wouldn't have either of these
