The five themes of geography. Everyone learns about them in their global studies class. Some people may think its a waste of time, but if you didn’t spend most of your time in that class slacking and watching the office, you may have walked away with some very useful information. Teaching students the five themes of geography prepares us for the “real world” and helps them to understand it. Helping them recognize it, providing them clarification, and helping them understand and make business decisions. We use the five themes of geography every day without even realizing it. For example, document C discusses a hotel with an all-robot staff in Japan. However, if someone doesn’t know whether the document was referring to the location Japan, or the location J-town (Japantown), they could end up searching all of Tokyo district in Los Angeles for a hotel that wasn’t there. One of the five themes, place, would help us distinguish the two. Although one is inspired by the other there are still different people and characteristics that would help differentiate the two. Another example is document D. This document discusses how businesses will start in big town and then spread to smaller towns to have a larger area to control. It also talks about how there is a manager that would have to manage the whole region. Let’s imagine that someone landed the job of manager and they think that they are only the manager of one building. They might not think that a small mistake could have an effect on a greater area due to the lack of clarification. An informed person would think about asking what region or location they are in charge of to avoid
