Due to the fact that the character’s looks are never specified in Shakespeare’s a Midsummer Night’s Dream, it is up to the reader to decide what the characters look like. The main characters Demetrius, Lysander, Helena and Hermia all have distinct personalities that set themselves apart from each other. Demetrius is a noble with a fickle, and arrogant personality. His image has clothing lined with gold, a look of arrogance, and a fickle personality.
First of all, Demetrius’ clothing is lined with gold and other jewels, around the ends of his clothing and boots. The reason for this is because of his noble status, which puts him in the position where buying such items is possible. Throughout the story Demetrius is shown to speak in blank verse or rhymed verse something that is only used for nobles and people with great authority (not peasants like the Mechanicals). This shows how in the play he jumps between loving the two in the play. Before the play started it is said that he was in love with Helena and in a serious reason, but for some unknown reason they broke up. This the start of his undying love for Hermia, despite of her denial of her advances and his hatred for Helena for still loving him. After that he goes back loving Helena because Oberon’s love potion. So it is obvious Demetrius moves around from girl to girl whenever he feels fit (or when is forced to by a magical love potion) so who’s to say that he will not change his mind about Helena because his of love potion wearing off. Or will he stay because he realized that he should stay with Hermia who really loves and cares about him. There is really no sure way of know further adding to the idea that he is a fickle character.
