In 2012 1.05 million abortions were performed in the United States. 4.8% of abortions in the US occurred from week 16 of pregnancy to week 32 , but when do human beings begin to have rights (Wilson 1)? Abortion, the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, has become one of the most controversial topics of our time since the Roe vs. Wade case in America due to it’s considered unethical and morally wrong by some, but at the same time can be viewed as a right to women. The abortion argument has divided people into two groups Pro Life and Pro Choice. The option of abortion is left all to the mother of the unborn child resulting in no say for the father. A common misconception of abortion is that men are the ones who are forceful and persuasive to women to have abortions. In some situations women go through the abortion procedure without even letting the father know due to they have the right to privacy. Even if a man is opposed to the mother of the child having or not having an abortion their opinion has no value in the overall outcome. An abortion not completely agreed upon can also lead to post abortion trauma. The effect of post abortion trauma for a man is similar to what a woman might experience such as depression, addictions, and rage (Cummings 1).
The book “The cost of choice” by Bachiochi shows views from a medical perspective. It examines the medical and negative health effects of those who choose to have abortions. Women who have abortion are at higher risk of breast cancers and other complications that could cause their next pregnancy to be difficult.
