Art has been displayed in many forms and mediums. Art is more than something to look it is an interpretation of the world. It’s self-expression of an individual or a group. representation of one’s feelings can be displayed. its touch, sound, smell, and texture. It’s amazing how you can see a painting, hear a poem, or even look at a picture and see it differently tan others. You can express religion political and even personal beliefs. You can even go beyond the norm and even say watching a caterpillar become a butterfly is beautiful, or even watching a mother cry while giving birth to her child. Art can be making love to that one person for the first time after dreaming about it for years then finally you become one with them. Pain can even play a role. This artwork was made to open the eyes of the racism in America. This is a symbol of women being behind bars pledging the same country that will not give rights to African Americans. This piece that is a painting that contradicts the American flag. America is supposed to be a symbol of freedom. This picture was a symbol that only white women deserve freedom meanwhile African-Americans were still segregated. It was prior to the civil rights movement when minority did not have rights like white Americans did. This political artwork hits close to home with me being a black woman in America. Even to this day I face being stereotyped. I face being told “your pretty for a black girl.” I have been -told go back to your country, but it’s funny because I thought America was my country. The very country my African American father severed time for, my grandfather’s fought for, my mother stood to protect. Faith was trying to open up the eyes to those who claim this is the land of the free and you had the right to pursuit happiness,
