I come from a diverse family, my mother is Afro-Colombian while my father is Trinidadian. Within this melting pot of cultures we have adopted this from past family members and friends who are Indian, Venezuelan, Bajan, Jamaican, and Ghanaian. The world is full with the many cultures of the very diverse people in it whose cultures differ from mine. I will be comparing and contrasting my culture to that of Somalians, White Europeans, and African- Americans. Food is a way people retain and spread their culture based on where and how they and their families grew up. In Somalian culture the staples are sorghum, bananas, millets, corn, and meat typically from goat, sheep, and cattle. Some popular dishes are Mushaali, Ful Sahan, Bariis Dalac, and Soor. In my culture we eat plantain, yucca, beans, and meat typically form goat, chicken, cattle. Some popular dishes are Roti, Rondon, Calaloo, Arrepas, and Sancocho. Both cultures tend to eat a lot of rice and other starchy food and rely heavily on the use of grains. The social structure within a community varies highly between one culture to another, for example European Americans and Afro-Caribbean Latinxs. They allow is to see the evolution of dancing in each culture. In African American cultures back in the day they would dance to Jazz, Disco, Motown, and Swing. However today, most dance to Hip Hop. In my culture, back in the day people would dance to Calypso, Ska, Kaiso, Salsa, Cumbia, and Vallenato. However in current times, we dance to Reggaeton, Soca, Dancehall, Bachata, Champeta, and the old time music as well.
