Imperialism was a way for “superior countries” that has established their economic and social power in the world to lead other countries into success. This was a good concept that many of these countries believed that they were performing. But of course, greed being a part of our nature morphed the idea of imperialism into enslavement or taking advantage of another country for the interests of our own. From the Europeans control over Africa during the industrial revolution to Britain’s control over Canada, many cases of imperialism are repeated in history and the majority of them have ended in tragedies.

Imperialism hindered Africa and the natives life because the Europeans took over their land and manipulated their financial status. The Europeans abused the africans and treated them in an unfair way. Even though the Africans work hard and deserved to get paid the Europeans still offered the minimal possible wages. This made their lives economically challenging and gradually hauled the country into poverty. Not only that but it is because of the imperialism that occured in Africa that sparked the flame to the slave trade that afflicted great pain for the Africans in the world between the 16th and 19th centuries. The Europeans only focused on the profit they could make off their new found land and destroyed the First Nations way of life. The Europeans harmed the environment by hunting and killing the entire population of bison, which was the First Nation’s main food source. They also forced the First Nations off their native land and controlled 98% of Canada. The First Nations were impelled to live in isolated reserves and their children were sent to residential schools. This was all part of the European plan of erasing their national identity and re-enforcing their own language and culture upon the natives. First Nations today
