In today’s society there are many barriers that the youth of the African American community face. One problem is the disconnection of the black family and community. Waking up every day in world that already has something against you and feeling as if you have no one who believe in you or supports positive growth can discourages the youth from trying to become a better person.
The of today’s time is constantly being criticized for almost everything they do. Many of today’s African American youth are indeed wild and out of control, but the problem does not always start with the child. Many of the parents in this time of society treat their children as their friend and allow them to do whatever they please. This is something that many people in the African American community no longer believes in. When I was younger, if a child was seen doing something wrong or being disrespectful it was okay for any adult to chastise that child. Many parents in today’s society does not accept this action from other adults. If the community cannot come together to simply help raise a child to succeed in life, what hope does the youth have today? Alongside with the fact many parents do not allow for their child to be chastised by others, many adults would rather talk about the wrong doings the youth are committing. Instead of criticizing the youth and putting them down, the older generations should do more to try to uplift the youth and at least attempt to teach them how to do and be better. There are many people who try to reach out to the youth, but if the program is set up by certain person, is located I a certain place, or has a certain set of rules, other people will criticize the organization, talk negatively about it in the public, or refuse to allow their children to
