The Civil War was a war that lasted 5 years between the North and South to abolish slavery. The North didn’t agree with African Americans being slaves, but the South agreed with it. African Americans didn’t agree with this because they were forced to work all day. This war lasted from April 12, 1861 to April 9, 1865. But at the end of the war the North won, which abolished slavery. This changed the way African Americans lived in the south, from being forced to work to being free. But during the war, enslaved Africans were still forced to work. African Americans have been enslaved for over 400 years. The history of this was when white people went to Africa and brought the Africans to North America and enslaved them in the 1600s.
