The banning of books is an ageless practice. Books contain a vast amount of educational material and information. The challenge of books has been at an all-time high since the 1970s, and many children are discouraged from reading what they enjoy (Webb 10). Across t united states, parents have been burdensome on the school board because they want more insight into their children's curriculum. Parents are provoking school board meetings to turn to chaos. Children's books should not be banned because certain people disagree with them. Illiterate people reflect the baseness of human nature, while literature refinds and improves the mind. Prison statisticians have developed an algorithm to predict how many prisoners there should be using the percentage of illiterate adolescents (Gaiman 2). The easiest way to teach children how to enjoy literature is to supply them with the books they want (Gaiman 4). Human society depends on the next generation of literate children.

Book banning is the most widespread censorship, with children's books being the main focus(Webb 4.). Book censorship supporters fear that certain books will influence children with their content. In the 1970s, most challenges and bans focused on obscenity and explicit sexuality(Webb 9). The ability to speak and publish under the First Amendment has been interpreted to protect society from government suppression. While book censorship violates the first amendment's right to freedom of speech, some limitations are permissible. Courts have told public offices to take in community standards when censoring books.
