Benjamin Olson: A Logical Candidate for the Jefferson Award The community needs youth mentors because children need to learn and grow to be good adults, and when with a youth mentor they can also have fun. The reason why the Jefferson Award is given out is that people should be recognized for doing things for others. Someone who is worth introducing is Benjamin Olson. Ben Olson deserves this award for being a great softball coach. He has experience in the sport because he played baseball in high school until 10th grade. He has also coached baseball and was also a side coach for 10 years, he should deserve the Jefferson Award for knowing his players well and having the desire to teach them to improve. In “Qualities for a Great Sports Coach,” it says, “Being aware of individual differences in athletes is an important ingredient in coaching excellence” (2023). This is showing that he has improved in learning athletes, he has gotten to know them in the process and has seen each of their differences to give them an even better understanding of the sport. He deserves the Jefferson Award because he is aware of other people's differences. For instance, Ben Olson deserves the Jefferson Award for helping my sister, Avery Olson, learn baseball and softball. She has a hard time paying attention to the sport so he knows the right way she likes to learn and how she learns best. This proves that Benjamin Olson is aware of other people’s differences, so this supports the idea that he deserves the Jefferson Award. Furthermore, Avery Olson my sister, and also an athlete that Ben Olson has coached, and is coaching right now said, “Because he knows the sport well, so he can teach us well.” This is specifically showing that Ben Olson is a good coach because he has coached Avery Olson very well, and also has shown her that he has a very well understanding of the sport. Avery Olson’s reasons are displaying that Ben Olson has a good understanding of the sports he coaches and is a very good coach because he benefited Avery Olson in a good way and can benefit her for her whole life, and in her hobby of youth softball, this is why Ben Olson should get the Jefferson
