Bicultural identity is when one regards the combination of two different cultures. Parents who promote their bicultural identity in adolescents do two different things. One would be that they want o preserve ethnic traditions so that their children will have pride in their heritage. Another thing would be simultaneously providing support for their children’s membership in the mainstream culture. The achievement of having a bicultural identity is especially valuable for adolescents who are immigrating to a new culture.

There are three main ones that will help such as teaching “life” skills, set high expectations for success, and providing care and support. It is important for parents to teach every child “life” skills. Some important “life” skills to be taught would be things such as manners, creating budgets, time management, and drug and alcohol awareness. If a child is able to take care of themselves, then they will be set on the right path of life so that they will not get caught up in doing drugs, becoming an alcoholic, and running with the wrong group of people. Another thing would be for parents to set high expectations for success. When parents tell their children what kind of expectations they have for their life, and then the children will see that it is important for them to follow down the right path. If the children cannot live up to the expectations that the parents have for them, then they feel as if they have disappointed their parents enormously. The last thing that is important is for the parents to provide good care and support. If the child can see how much the parents care and love for them, then they feel the sense of attachment. When the parent shows that they care about what their child does all the time then, they child will be more forthcoming with things that are affecting their life and their
